Men’s Soccer
The Buckeyes dropped their Big Ten opener to No. 15 Indiana 2-0 on 9/23. Andrew Oliver gave Indiana a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of play, and then Eriq Zavaleta converted a penalty kick in the second half to give them their second goal. The Buckeyes outshot the Hoosiers 16-10 in total shots while being edged 7-6 in corner kicks. On 9/26, Ohio State got back into the win column with a 4-1 win over Butler. Austin McAnena had a trick for the Buckeyes, the first for the team since 2005. The Buckeyes finished with an 11-10 overall shot advantage but were beat in corner kicks by the Bulldogs 8-3.
Men’s Cross Country
The Buckeyes finished 13th at the 8k Notre Dame Invitational on 9/28 after finishing with a team score of 296. Tulsa captured the team crown, finishing with 104 points. Ohio State senior Donny Roys led the Buckeyes, finishing 25th with a time of 24:14, followed by sophomore Josh Sabo who finished 38th with a time of 24:23.
Women’s Cross Country
Ohio State finished 11th with a team score of 249 at the 8k Notre Dame Invitational on 9/28. Five of the Buckeyes finished with personal best times, including junior Meredith Wagner, who finished 11th overall with a time of 16:54. Florida State took home the title with a combined team score of 29 points.
Field Hockey
The Buckeyes defeated Missouri State on 9/23 by a score of 10-1. The ten goals set the OSU record from 1994, when they played Louisville. Senior Berta Queralt led the Buckeyes with a hat trick and an assist. Ohio State, who held a 5-0 lead at halftime, held a 23-11 advantage in shots for the game. On 9/26, the Buckeyes defeated Robert Morris 6-0, scoring 3 goals in each half. Queralt led the charge again for Ohio State, finishing with 3 goals.
Women’s Soccer
On 9/23, the Buckeyes shut out Northwestern 2-0 at Lakeside Field. Tiffany Cameron scored both goals for the Buckeyes, who took the lead in the 58th minute. They held a 15-14 advantage in shots, including 7-3 on goal. It was also their sixth shut out of the season. On 9/27, Ohio State was shut out by No. 8 Penn State in a 3-0 decision despite finishing with a 22-14 shot advantage. The undefeated Nittany Lions took the lead in the 25th minute when Tani Costa found the goal. They scored again close to the end of the first half and again in the 71st minute.
Women’s Volleyball
The No. 22 Buckeyes were defeated 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) by No. 10 Minnesota on 9/29. Senior Mari Hole led Ohio State with 13 kills and 2 digs while teammate Emily Danks finished with 8 kills. Daly Santana and Katherine Harms led the Gophers with 14 kills each. On 9/29, Ohio State defeated Wisconsin 3-1 (25-21, 25-11, 19-25, 25-20). Hole and junior Kaitlyn Leary combined for 44 kills to lead the Buckeyes. Hole had 23 kills, 14 digs, and 3 blocks while Leary had 21 kills and 7 blocks.
