Spotlight on: Ohio State Women’s Soccer

The Ohio State women’s soccer team defeated Illinois 2-1 on Sunday afternoon (11/4) to win the Big Ten Tournament.  The Buckeyes, seeded second, defeated the fifth-seeded Illini to bring back the third conference tournament title in program history. The team finished 16-4-1 on the season.

A physical back and forth first half had the game scoreless at halftime.  In the second half, Tiffany Cameron scored her 19th goal of the season to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead.  She scored the second goal for her team in the 69th minute off a pass from teammate Michela Paradiso.  Illinois cut the lead to 2-1 around the 80th minute after a goal by Allie Osoba, but they could not manage to tie it up.

Ohio State led the Illini in shots 19-7, led by Cameron’s six shots.  She was named the Offensive Player of the Tournament while teammate and Ohio State goalkeeper Jillian McVicker was named Defensive Player of the Tournament.

To reach the championship game, the Buckeyes defeated Nebraska in the first round 1-0 and Michigan in the second round 2-1.

Men’s Soccer

10/28 – The Buckeyes battled back to tie Penn State 4-4 in State College, moving their record to 6-9-2.

Men’s Golf

10/29-30  Ohio State finished 14th of 14 in the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate tournament in Dallas.

Men’s Swimming & Diving

11/2 – The Buckeyes improved to 3-0 with a win over Division III Denison.

Men’s Hockey

10/27 – Ohio State tied Bowling Green 3-3, moving their record to 3-2-2.

Women’s Golf

10/26-28 – The Buckeyes finished 16th of 17 in the 2012 Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC.

Field Hockey

10/26 – The Buckeyes closed out the regular season with a 1-0 win over Indiana.

11/1 – Ohio State lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament to Michigan by a score of 1-0.

10/27 – The Buckeyes defeated Iowa in Iowa City by a score of 3-1.

11/2 – Ohio State defeated Wisconsin at St. John Arena 3-1.
