In some relatively minor news today, the Pirates announced that first baseman Josh Bell had surgery on his left knee:

It doesn’t seem that Bell will be out long, but this could put his Opening Day status in jeopardy, and he does have a history with this knee. Some tweets of note:
Josh Bell had surgery to remove a loose body from his left knee, Pirates say. Typical return time is 2-4 weeks. Opening Day status TBD.

Pirates say Josh Bell "recently" alerted club of "some discomfort in his left knee during his offseason workouts." Surgery was today.

This is three injuries of various severity (meniscal repair in '12, bone bruise in '14, loose body removed today) to Bell's left knee.

If I were a betting man, I’d say Bell will be ready for Opening Day. If for some reason he’s not and this injury does set him back, the Pirates have David Freese at the ready to play first until Bell returns. The Pirates and Bell were hoping to get Bell as many reps at first base as possible this spring, so this could certainly affect that. Hopefully this knee doesn’t become an issue moving forward in Bell’s career.
