How can you plan for the future if you don’t know where the future is coming from?
This is what I plan to do with reviews on some of the top stars of NXT who I feel we will see on WWE TV in the very near future.
Is there any other way to start a series like this than with the current NXT Champion Finn Balor?
Balor came to an NXT towards the end of 2014 during the influx of independent star signings including the likes of Hideo Itami and Kevin Owens. Since then the NXT crowd has simply been amazed by the in-ring talent and out of ring theatrics that Balor has displayed.
While new to NXT, Balor is not new to the wrestling business as a whole. As Prince Devitt or Fergal Devitt, Balor has been wrestling all over the world, most notably in Japan, since 2000. His talent and knowledge of the profession is respected enough that he has already trained several younger stars, including current Diva Becky Lynch.
Balor doesn’t have the stereotypical “wrestling body” but that could work in his benefit. The business is changing. WWE has shown that you don’t have to be a bodybuilder reject to make it in this business anymore. Look at guys like Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose – the way you look like no longer trumps your in-ring ability. It is about what you can do in the ring and the show you can give the fans – and Balor can put on a show!
Taking absolutely nothing away from his in-ring talent, the biggest draw of Balor is his alter-ego character that he has created – The Demon. Held for special events, Balor, in a red and black head piece, arm bands and body paint, comes to the ring as if he is possessed by a Demon that takes him to another level to intimidate his opponents.
The allure of the character and the entrance of the character can be the allure of The Undertaker’s entrance. The few times that we have seen The Demon we have seen a little twist in the entrance to make sure that it is not the same thing every time. Fans ask every time “what are we going to get this time?”
Not once have they been disappointed!
HOW TO BOOK THE CALL UP
We are creeping up on what could be a perfect time to get Balor to the main roster for what would be months of pure entertainment heading into the biggest show of the year.
This year’s Royal Rumble event is being held in Orlando. Coincidently, Orlando is the home of NXT – I expect to see a strong NXT presence in this year’s Rumble match. The strongest should come from Balor. Let me reiterate, Balor, NOT The Demon character. He comes out in the Balor Club jacket and puts on a good show capped off with an elimination of Bray Wyatt or at least one member of The Wyatt Family.
This will give Wyatt a reason to keep his eye on Balor throughout WrestleMania season as he becomes enamored with the stories he has heard about “this demon character.” He says that HE is the only real demon to strike fear in the WWE.
This leads to what could very well be a match to steal the show at WrestleMania 32 between Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor. THIS is when the WWE Universe gets its first look at The Demon and they are introduced to it in an extravagant to say the least. The entrance that Balor has created for The Demon was made for WrestleMania!
My friends and I would have a little WrestleMania pool every year. One of the picks was always an over/under on the time of The Undertaker’s entrance. It is pretty easy to think that Balor could fill that role and fill that role nicely!
The atmosphere of the two entrances alone would be enough to create a WrestleMania moment let alone how great the match itself could be. Balor already has a very strong following with NXT and it shouldn’t take long for the WWE Universe to latch on to the skills that Balor has as well. Hopefully this theory will be tested out sooner rather than later.
