Just hours before the game began, many wondered whether the Green Bay Packers would get retribution for their loss last week to the Vikings or if the Minnesota would have a successful repeat performance. That speculation took a turn for a worse as quarterback, Christian Ponder, was ruled out of the game with a sore elbow and bruised tricep. Quarterback Joe Webb would get the start but it wouldn’t be enough as Green Bay cruised past the Minnesota Vikings by the final score of 24-10.
With Ponder out, Joe Webb would make his first start of the entire 2012-2013 season. Webb, who had not even had a pass attempt all year, started off the game showing off his legs moving the ball down the field setting up a field goal for Minnesota’s first points of the game.
Webb’s impressive play would be short lived as he showed major struggle throughout the game. He missed many wide open targets and in two instances, tossed up two blind passes that could have been easily intercepted. He did not throw a touchdown pass until late in the fourth quarter when Michael Jenkins drove in a 50 yard pass off a blown coverage. Webb would finish the game with a highly disappointing 11 completions off of 30 attempts for 180 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The Green Bay defense came into the game with a score to settle after Adrian Peterson rushed for over 400 yards between their two regular season match-ups. The Vikings star running back did not have much luck today as he finished the game with just 99 yards, 100 yards less than their meeting last week.
The Packers’ offense definitely capitalized off of the broken play of the Minnesota Vikings. Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers finished the game 23/33 for 274 yards and one touchdown while spreading the ball among ten different Green Bay receivers. Fullback, John Kuhn, pounded in two touchdowns himself as part of the three touchdowns scored by the Packer offense.
While Ponder was out for the Vikings, wide receiver Jordy Nelson did manage to play for the Packers despite a knee injury. Nelson finished the night with four catches for 51 yards.
Next week, the Green Bay Packers look to continue their playoff push into the NFC Divisional Round as they prepare for Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers. Kickoff is scheduled for next Saturday at 8:00 pm.
