In what will probably become a trend this year, the computerized power ranks are being posted after the first game of the week has already been played. Once again, this week’s ranks do not include the Giants win over the Panthers on Thursday night. Everyone loves football and it’s great to see a game on TV every Thursday, but it kind of sucks if you play fantasy football or are in a pick’em league, where you might be forced to pick Sunday games on a Wednesday night….
Last week our original #1, the Patriots, got upset at home by the Cardinals, in one of the most improbable games in a long time. The new #1 in the computerized ranks is a team many already believe to be the team to beat this year in the NFL, the 49ers. They jumped 4 spots after dispatching a tough Lions team at home on Sunday night. The Texans, who are also 2-0, moved up to #2, while the 2-0 Falcons, Chargers, and Cardinals round out the top 5.
One crazy side story in the NFL is that there are 20 1-1 teams in the league, leaving only 6 2-0 and 6 0-2 teams. The ranks believe the top 1-1 team is the #7 Ravens, while the worst is the #26 Bengals. Speaking of bad teams, the Titans, Saints, Browns, Raiders, and Chiefs round out the bottom 5, while the 0-2 Jaguars sit barely outside the bottom 5.
