NFL Computerized Power Ranks: Week 6

The up and down world of the NFL turned again this week, and what better way to sort out the carnage than with computerized power ranks.  Let’s recap.  The formerly undefeated and former #1 Texans got lit up by the Packers, which might not seem too surprising until you realize they are 3-3 and lost to the worst team in the NFL in 2011 just last week.  Meanwhile, the former #3 49ers, who annihilated the Jets and Bills the past 2 weeks got slammed at home by the Giants.  This gave the Cardinals a chance to take back 1st in the NFC West, but they lost to the Bills, who circled the wagons after their 45-3 loss last week, apparently.  On that note, everyone in the AFC East is now 3-3, including the Patriots, who lost to the Seahawks, who have now beaten both the Patriots and Packers and could be 6-0 if it weren’t for some narrow losses to the Cardinals and Rams.  Who knows what Week 7 will bring at this point…

The Falcons, who barely survived a scare from the #31 Raiders, are the only undefeated team and are now #1.  After the craziness described above, the idle Bears are now #2, while the 5-1 Ravens (and their beat up defense) are now #3 while the Texans dropped to #4 and the Giants moved up to #5 after their impressive win in San Francisco.

On the bottom end, the Browns finally got a win and moved up to #27, while the the  Titans surprising win over the Steelers moved them out of the bottom 5 as well.  This pushed down the Chiefs and Raiders to the bottom 2 spots, along with the idle 1995 expansion teams and idle Saints.  Interesting how not playing this week led to such significant moves in the ranks…

The biggest gainer this week were the Jets, who bounced back and crushed the Colts, followed by the Redskins, who cooled off the Vikings.  The biggest losers were the 2 biggest chokers of the week, the Chargers and Eagles, who blew seemingly comfortable leads and cost the Eagles defensive coordinator his job.
