NFL Free Agency: Eagles are frontrunners for Byron Maxwell

With the legal tampering period in NFL free agency kicking off today at noon, it seems like Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell is the Philadelphia Eagles crown jewel.

According to Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports, the Eagles are “definitely out in front” for Maxwell. This is good news for all Eagles fans to hear as Maxwell is the second best cornerback on the free agent market next to Darrelle Revis.

But the question is how much are the Eagles willing to spend on Maxwell as it looks like Kareem Jackson’s contract has set the market value for corners. Will the Eagles overspend for Maxwell knowing that they have a hole at safety? Well, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, he believes that the Eagles cannot make the best offer to both Maxwell and safety Devin McCourty, who they also have interest in.

This past season, Maxwell had 45 tackles, 13 pass deflections, two interceptions and a fumble recovery, while playing on the opposite side of Richard Sherman.

Finally, just a few ago minutes, Getlin adds that it is unlikely that Maxwell gets north of $9.5 million per year.
