NFL Gives Weslye Saunders The Green Light

Former South Carolina Gamecocks tight end, Weslye Saunders, got some good news recently as the NFL has declared him eligible for the upcoming draft.

Saunders learned of the league’s decision Monday and will attend the NFL’s combine for draft-eligible players in Indianapolis this weekend.

If you recall he was declared ineligible a few weeks back.  The NFL originally thought Saunders needed to declare for the draft as an underclassman since he did not play his senior season. However,  the league granted Saunders’ petition of appeal and the NFL ended up giving him the “green light.”

Let’s all hope this is the sign of good things to happen for Saunders as he has had a run of bad luck, even if his actions helped dig that hole.  Remember, he was at the center of an NCAA inquiry at South Carolina for potential contact with agents and for several football players staying at a local hotel at discounted rates. Saunders was suspended in late August and permanently dismissed a few weeks later without playing a game in the 2010 season.
