There may be a chance that a second NFL game, in one week’s time, will seek a change of venue due to unfavorable conditions.
Monday night’s match-up between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets took place at Ford field in Detroit and not on Buffalo’s home field at Ralph Wilson Stadium due to the after effects of blizzard-like conditions.
A rather substantial snow accumulation, that according to The Buffalo News, had reached as much as 7 feet by Friday last. The white shroud engulfed pretty much everything in the area, including the stadium, making it impossible to hold the game there this past Monday.
The Indianapolis Star reports that there may be need to move the venue of next Monday’s contest between the St. Louis Rams and the Oakland Raiders to Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium.
An NFL sources have indicated that the tension and unrest in Ferguson, MO, in the wake of the grand jury’s acquittal of Darren Wilson in the Michael Brown case, may make it necessary to move Monday Night’s game to an alternate site as well. Although these sources are saying at this point it’s likely a “remote possibility.”
The Star indicated that Indianapolis’ proximity is what made it the best venue in this situation. The Lucas Oil Stadium concession staff have been put on call should that “remote possibility” become a reality.
“The Colts would provide infrastructure including ticket distribution, concession workers and even the sideline chain crew, but the game would be considered a league event and not a profitable opportunity for the Colts.”
The Indianapolis Department of Public safety has also indicated that it will be prepared, in the event of the game’s relocation to Lucas Oil Stadium.
When Monday Night’s game was relocated to Detroit, 67,000 free tickets were given out for the AFC East match-up that took place in NFC North territory. There was a turnout of 56,044 attendees to see the Bills turn a frown upside down, in the 38-3 drubbing of the Jets.
If the game is indeed moved I’m sure that the Rams will be hoping it will be just as lucky for them as it was for the Bills playing a “home” game and winning, in a neutral team’s “house”. #Ferguson
