NFL – State of SC round up

We saw where Bennett and Rice ended up and those “other” players from the team that wears purple and orange but what about the other players with South Carolina connections. Well, here is the run down provided by The State paper.

–Wingate senior cornerback David Jones became the first player in school history to be selected in the NFL draft. He was taken by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round, 145th overall. (Greenville Native)

–Quarterback Tyler Thigpen became the first player in Coastal Carolina’s short history to be drafted. Thigpen was taken in the seventh round by Minnesota. This past season, the Fairfield Central product passed for 3,296 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

–Lawrence Timmons. Pittsburgh took the former Wilson High standout linebacker with their first pick. Any thoughts Big Angry?

–Justin Durant. Hampton’s three-time MEAC defensive player of the year and former teammate of Timmons at Wilson High was taken in the second round by Jacksonville, No. 48 overall. Any thoughts here too, Big Angry, with this guy?

–Brandon Frye. The Myrtle Beach High product was taken in the fifth round, 163rd overall, by Houston after a strong senior season at Virginia Tech.

LOHD Update: South Carolina center Chris White agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent, the Eagles announced Monday. Also Clemson football news -following the draft, Merriweather, Bennett and Gilliam agreed to free agent deals with the Chargers, Panthers and Vikings, respectively.
