Larry Fitzgerald has been one of the best wideouts in the game, yet his talents have been wasted with the Arizona Cardinals.  Now, the situation with the organization has changed.

In his last two seasons he has been inconsistent. He had 798 yards with four touchdowns in 2012 and in 2013 954 yards and 10 touchdowns. He  was better with quarterback Carson Palmer under center, yet  still disappointing. Bruce Arians has indicated he wants to use Fitzgerald more on the inside.

It would be a good idea because it would make him a bigger threat.

Arians used Reggie Wayne at multiple receiver positions in Indianapolis in 2012. Wayne played well in that system and it revived his career. The same thing could happen to Fitzgerald. There is a big decision that is nearing for both sides. Fitzgerald restructured his contract earlier this year to save the team money in the short-term. The problem is that his cap number in 2015 is an astronomical $23.6 million. Obviously, something has to give here.

The pressure is on Fitzgerald to get back to form. There is no way that the Cardinals can absorb his cap number with his decreasing production. His teammate and presumed successor, Michael Floyd, has been steadily improving over the past several seasons. He looks like he is possibly ready to assume the No.1 receiver duties in the desert.

Essentially, Fitzgerald is entering a contract year. It is now or never for him. He has meant so much to the Cardinals franchise over the past decade. The playoff drought hasn’t been his fault, yet father time claims all great athletes.

He is entering the most important season of his illustrious career. There is little doubt that he can rise to the occasion. Special players adapt and improve with the changing circumstances.

Fitzgerald is special, and will come back as strong as ever in 2014.
