Going to mediation doesn’t mean that the two sides will get a deal done by the March 3 lockout deadline, but it’s absolutely a positive step — mediation will allow them to establish actual baselines for their negotiations and reasonable expectations moving forward, all while — hopefully — keeping emotions out of play.
