Right after the Ottawa Senators placed forward Cory Conacher on waivers, they acquired forward Ales Hemsky from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 2014 5th-round pick and a 2015 3rd-round pick.
Hemsky is in his 11th season in the NHL and spent all of his time with the Oilers, the team who drafted him in the 1st round back in 2001. He has scored 142 goals and 477 points throughout his career. This season, he has nine goals and 26 points with a minus -13 rating.
The Buffalo Sabres have claimed Conacher off waivers Wednesday before this deal was completed, meaning Hemsky could be an ideal linemate for Milan Michalek.
Ottawa, who currently sits 6th place in the Atlantic Division also signed defenseman Chris Phillips to a 2-year $5 million contract extension. The Senators appear to be making a run for it as they are only four points out of a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
