NHL Hard Knocks to Include Rex Ryan Swearing

NHL Hard Knocks to Include Rex Ryan SwearingEarlier today, pay-per-view TV network Home Box Office — commonly known as HBO — has announced an NHL Hard Knocks series to capitalize on the success of it’s series NFL Hard Knocks. Earlier this month, NFL Hard Knocks concluded after following the New York Jets around their training camp and pre-season games. The NHL version will follow both the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins and chronicle their run and preparations for the winter classic.

Through a source close to HBO, BMR has learned that each episode of NHL Hard Knocks will include short, 30-second commercial breaks throughout the show designed not to advertise upcoming shows or products but to keep the viewer’s attention and wake them up in case they fall asleep. These commercials will be of New York Jets coach Rex Ryan swearing uncontrollably at the camera for 30-seconds.

“We felt the success of Jets Hard Knocks was due in large part to Rex’s foul mouth,” says Dana Hartman, executive producer of all the Hard Knocks’ series. “Every week a large segment of the audience tuned in only to see how many F-bombs he’d drop and when. So it only makes sense to weave it into the NHL series — especially for the NFL fan who is tuning into hockey for the first time. As long as we do it tastefully, it should be successful.”

There’s no word on what Ryan will be cursing about or at whom, but market research suggests that the more thickheaded of NFL fans will still be entertained. Says Hartman, “we believe that we can time these interruptions to air at the specific point NFL fans will be asking themselves ‘what’s a hockey?’ and keep us from having to answer that question.”
