Given the love and respect the famed Bleacher Creatures showed Nick Swisher during his four years in the Big Apple…you knew the New York Yankees faithful had June 3 circled on their calendar.
And on Monday, it happened.
Now with the Cleveland Indians, Swisher returned to Yankee Stadium for the first time since rejecting a contract offer from the team back in November. And, true to form, the Bleacher Creatures greeted Swisher back to the ballpark just like they had previous Bronx Bombers.
"I've been fortunate enough to get to know Swish a little bit through some fundraising events with Swish's Wishes and High Socks for Hope," the group's de facto leader "Bald Vinny" Milano told The Hall, "so with Nick it's a bit different than welcoming back other players."
It was during Monday night's roll call that Swisher did his trademark salute.
"We've had a lot of fun with him in right over the four years he was with the Yankees, so I really had been looking forward to this for a while," Milano continued. "The Swishers will always be a part of the bleacher family, so it was pretty easy getting everyone fired up to make some noise."
Oh, an added kicker to the Swisher salute…check out Yankees first baseman Lyle Overbay's reaction to "Bald Vinny" and the gang. Then, finish watching the rest of the video to see Swisher's ovation.
