Rosenborg has generally handled themselves in a very sportsmanlike, professional manner. They won Norway’s “fair play” rating a few years ago, securing a spot in the Europa League because they were such good sports. This season has been a little bit different.
They added a couple more fiery guys to shake up the complacent attitude that may have been the downfall of last year’s team. It seemed to start off so well. Cristian Gamboa was shown red last week. Early in Sunday’s game with Sandnes Ulf, Tore Reginiussen (the freaking captain) horse collared an Sandnes defender and earned red himself. Then, there is the striker, Nicki Bille Nielsen, who just looks unbalanced. Note the above picture, what with the abdominal pistol tattoo.
Sunday was a rough day all around for RBK. Sandnes, a much lesser team was up 1-0, and they had a penalty kick after Reginiussen’s red card. Daniel Orlund saved it, however, and RBK was able to stay competitive despite their man disadvantage. Still, the game was chippy, and RBK rattled the woodwork every time they got close. Nicki Bille even found the uprights a couple of times. Emotions were raw, frustration was high, so when Nicki Bille had an opportunity at the open net and was form tackled by the Sandnes goalkeeper, he was upset. When he wasn’t awarded a penalty kick, he lost his freaking mind.
