After not signing with the Toronto Raptors following two 10-day contracts, Nigel Hayes was set to return to the Westchester Knicks for the NBA G League playoffs against the Raptors 905. Instead, Hayes has been summoned to Sacramento to sign with the Kings the rest of the season.
Throughout his rookie season with Westchester, Hayes was an effective player. Not only did he showcase his skills on a nightly basis, but he continued to improve his game. A 33% three-point shooter at Wisconsin, the 6’8″ forward improved his perimeter game and became one of the top three-point shooters during his 38 games with the Knicks. He has shown his versatility with Westchester with an ability to play both forward positions and can attack the opposition on the perimeter or on the block. He has demonstrated his defensive prowess as well.
Hayes didn’t see much playing time with Raptors while the team was in a tough stretch of games and didn’t have much practice time.
This is Hayes’ third call-up of the season and Westchester’s fifth overall for the season. On Jan. 19, Hayes inked a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. In March, he signed two 10-day deals with Toronto. In Westchester’s franchise history, seven players have earned a combined 12 call-ups.
