The first two months of this season had been solid for Jakob Junis. It’s the 12.2 innings of work he’s compiled so far in June that’s spoiling the fun at the moment. Over his fist 67.1 innings, the right-hander owned a 3.61 ERA and 1.14 WHIP to go along with a 22.1% strikeout rate and 6.1% walk rate.

With a 6.39 ERA so far in June, his season-long ERA of 4.05 doesn’t look much different than last year’s (4.30 ERA in 98.1 innings). This period of time spans just two starts, so we can obviously take it with a grain of salt.

What’s interesting, though, is Junis has allowed contact less frequently in June (74.5%) than he had in the first two months (79.3%). As one can imagine, it’s the quality of contact that’s the culprit. After limiting hard contact to a 34.3% rate to start the year, it’s risen to 56.4% in his last two starts.
