Yoan Moncada, 2B, Chicago White Sox

Two things have typically been true about Yoan Moncada as a big leaguer — he strikes out a lot and makes a ton of hard contact. Since joining the White Sox in 2017, the young infielder hasn’t posted a strikeout rate below 32.0%, but has generated hard contact at least 36.0% of the time.

While Moncada finished April with a 141 wRC+ and .877 OPS, he’s yet to crack 70 and .600, respectively, in those categories since. And although he owned a startling 39.2% strikeout rate through one month of play, it was accompanied by just a 22.4% chase rate. That makes his 54.2% hard-hit rate during this time less surprising.

His strikeout rate has fallen to 32.4% since May 1st, as has his hard-hit rate (31.0%), so it’s also not surprising to see his chase rate rise to 27.6%.
