Might be worth giving Adam Wainwright a pregnancy test… dude has been laboring in these playoffs.
Sorry.
And yes, I get that it doesn’t actually make sense.
A disaster joke for a disaster start for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the National League Championship series. There’s no way around it. Nothing positive to glean. No sunny side.
1 – Adam Wainwright needed 98 pitches to get through 4 2/3 innings. At home. After assuring everyone that would listen this week that he was good to go. He’s now 4-4 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.148 WHIP in his postseason career. He hasn’t won a game in the last four post-season series (including the current one). And he burned through the bullpen to put the Cardinals in a hole tonight.
I’m not sure what to believe about #STLCards’ Wainwright. I’m not sure what he believes himself. Column: http://t.co/SQNDSvHsH2

2 – The offense was peak 2014 feebleness. 0-15 in the 2-5 spots in the order? That’s stupendously inept. Madison Bumgarner took his hand out from his pocket and slapped the Cardinals across their face. Hard. In fact, I don’t know if you’ve checked out this footage from last night, but it’s a new angle on what happened.
Add one and two up and you get hung with an L.
The Cardinals got hung with an L.
The Best? The Worst?
+ Jon Jay. He might not win the team MVP this season for the Cardinals, but he deserves serious consideration. Seemed to be the only guy trying to get something started last night. 2-2 with a HBP. As depressing as it is to type… he was literally over 1/2 of the teams offense by himself.
– Randal Grichuk. Just how much good will does a HR against Clayton Kershaw buy you from Mike Matheny? 5 games and counting, it appears. Grichuk was 0-4 in GM 1 and has dropped to 3-20 during the postseason. That includes 8 strikeouts. Oscar Taveras is alive right?
+ Marco Gonzales, I have to admit, was nothing more than an afterthought for me heading into the postseason. The dude, though, has been nails. Considering he’s a rookie and didn’t get a ton of MLB work during the season? Way more impressive than anyone is giving him credit for. He put out Wainwright’s burgeoning fire in the 5th and then shut the Giants down in the 6th, keeping the Cardinals within striking distance.
– Is their a moratorium on Jhonny Peralta WAR talk? Can we start one? He wasn’t signed to a big contract to have a good regular season WAR. He was signed to help the Cardinals win the World Series. To this point, he’s been struggling with the latter.
