Evaluating Noah Syndergaard’s potential landing spots

MLB: San Diego Padres at New York Mets

Minnesota Twins

Rumors between the Mets and Twins have progressed so much that names of two Minnesota prospects have leaked to the public: shortstop Royce Lewis and outfielder/first baseman Alex Kirilloff.

Those prospects have typically been off limits in trade discussions, but possibly acquiring a talent like Syndergaard may force their hand. When looking at all the starting pitchers available, Thor has the best track record with the most team control while also still being financially affordable.

The pressure they’re feeling from the Indians can’t be denied, either. At one point toward the end of May, the Twins had a 10-game lead in the American League Central over the Cleveland Indians. That cushion has now shrunk to two games entering Saturday, and manager Terry Francona‘s club is still waiting for the returns of Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco.

Having a top three of Syndergaard, Jose Berrios, and Jake Odorizzi would be a terrific way to fortify a rotation for the stretch run. Plus, this would give the Twins a little breathing room since Odorizzi is due to hit free agency this winter.
