On their 10th attempt, the Cardinals finally got to 10 games over .500 for the season.
Turns out, they needed to be 11 over.
The 2016 regular season has ended and the Cardinals will be absent from MLB’s championship tournament for the first time since 2010. For context, this was the top song and this was the top TV show when the Cardinals last sat out the start of the postseason.
‘Twas a good run.
The team that most of us thought was inside the Cardinals dugout finally showed up the past 4 games. And – candidly – I’m not quite ready for the season to end. But you can’t always get what you want. And it’ll be 6 more months before we see the Birds on the Bat in regular season action again.
When we do, it’s going to be sans one Matthew Holliday.

My dad mentioned to me that kids all across St. Louis will probably have a better holiday haul this year since mom and dad won’t be paying off huge credit card bills in November.
So there’s something?
Listen I don’t have good words for you today. I was hoping for much more from the Cardinals in 2016. But it’s not going to happen. And we’re all kind of sad about it.
But soon enough the holidays will come and spring will be around the corner. Our melancholy will turn into anticipation sooner than later.
I don’t know why I thought of this moment from Harry Caray. But if you substitute all the ‘Cubs’ for ‘Cardinals’ it kind of works? Maybe?
It’s the best I could muster.
Thanks for the memories we did get, Cardinals. Enjoy winter vacation. Rest up. And let’s pick up where you left off this weekend.
