Cornerback Nolan Carroll’s last game wasn’t a good one, ending with a season-ending leg injury. Despite becoming a free-agent, and visiting with other teams, Carroll and the Eagles have agreed to a one-year deal to keep him in Philadelphia according to a source (via NJ.com).
Carroll started at cornerback in 2015 along with now former Eagle Byron Maxwell. During the season, he racked up 57 combined tackles, and two interceptions.
The seven-year pro joined the Eagles in 2014 after spending four seasons with the Dolphins. He played in all 16 games during his first year as an Eagles despite not becoming a starter until the next year.
Carroll’s career year came in 2013, his last in Miami, when he recorded 47 combined tackles, three interceptions, and 11 passes defended.
Despite the big signing of Maxwell last offseason, Carroll proved to be the most effective cornerback on the roster. Now, he joins a host of cornerbacks, including Eric Rowe, and new signees Leodis McKelvin and Ron Brooks, in battling for the starting spot in 2016.
Carroll’s return helps the Eagles sure up a defensive secondary that seemed to be weak just a few weeks ago. While Carroll still has much to prove as a number one corner, the Eagles can now breathe a little when it comes to replacing the departing Maxwell and Walt Thurmond.
