Florida State was pummeled from the start in Uncasville, Connecticut Saturday afternoon as Providence cruised to an 80-54 victory over the Seminoles.

It took the Seminoles more than six and a half minutes to score their first field goal as the Friars scored the game’s first 11 points and never looked back.

Providence led 34-19 at the break and the contest was never closer than 11 in the second half. FSU’s Aaron Thomas’ steal and breakaway dunk with just under 16 minutes remaining made the margin 40-29, but the Friars responded with an 8-1 run to go back up by 18.

Thomas led the Seminoles with 16 points, but on just 4-for-14 shooting. Montay Brandon added 13 points and a team-high 7 rebounds in the loss.

As a team, Providence shot 54 percent from the field and 9-for-19 from downtown.

LaDontae Henton finished with game-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Friars (4-0). Guards Kris Dunn and Jalen Lindsey each added 15 in the win.

FSU (1-2) will play Massachusetts on Sunday at the same location.
