For top-ranked Florida State on Saturday night, a victory did not come easy. The Seminoles jumped to a 17-0 lead before holding off a furious Oklahoma State rally to leave Dallas with a 37-31 victory.
While Florida State was not as crisp as many had hoped or anticipated, FSU held on to the top spot in both major polls. For a second straight week, the Seminoles received 57 first-place votes in the Amway Coaches Poll, but they did lose ground in the AP Poll.
After garnering 57 first-place votes in the preseason poll, Florida State received just 46 first-place votes at the poll’s release on Tuesday. Alabama was ranked behind Florida State in both polls with Oregon, Oklahoma and Auburn rounding out the top 5.
Auburn was ranked fifth in both polls while Oregon was third in the AP Poll and fourth in the Coaches Poll. The Ducks finished with the second most first-place votes in the AP Poll with five. Oklahoma ranked fourth in the AP Poll and third in the Coaches.
Each of the nation’s top five teams will be in action on Saturday. Oregon looks to have the toughest test as the Ducks host Michigan State. The Spartans sit just outside the top 5 at #6 in the Coaches Poll and seventh in the AP Poll. Florida State will host The Citadel at 7:30 P.M. eastern time for its home-opener.
