‘Noles Take Final ACC Series

The final ACC series of the season was a winning one for Florida State. Facing Duke, the Seminoles took the first two games, but failed to complete the sweep for a second straight ACC series. The first game was a pitchers’ duel while the final two games of the series saw no shortage of offense.

By taking two of three, FSU finishes the regular season with a record of 41-14. The week started for Florida State with a loss to UCF. The Seminoles will now turn their focus to the ACC Tournament which gets underway on Tuesday. Looking back on another winning series at Dick Howser Stadium, here’s how Florida State got the better of the Blue Devils:

Duke 0, Florida State 3
Thursday, May 15th

Luke Weaver allowed just five hits and one walk in seven shutout innings to improve to 8-3 on the season for Florida State. All three FSU runs came in the third inning. Danny De La Calle, Casey Smit and D.J. Stewart all drove in runs in the frame. De La Calle finished with two of the Seminoles’s six hits. Jameis Winston pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save for Florida State.

Duke 8, Florida State 9
Friday, May 16th

Duke trailed 9-3 after eight innings, but brought fives runs home in the ninth and put the tying run in scoring position with two outs. Florida State’s Dylan Silva finally got Duke’s Chris Marconcini to fly out to deep center to end the contest. D.J. Stewart finished with four hits, scored three runs and drove in three more for the Seminoles. Jose Brizuela had three hits and plated a pair of runs for FSU while Josh Delph finished with two runs scored and as many RBIs. Ryan Deitrich had three hits, two runs and a pair of RBIs for the Blue Devils.

Saturday, May 17th

In his return to the role of starter, senior Peter Miller struggled for Florida State allowing two runs in just an inning of work. Duke’s seven runs came on just seven hits as Florida State pitching surrendered nine total walks. Ryan Deitrich homered for the Blue Devils while Justin Gonzalez went yard for FSU. Jose Brizuela scored three of the five Seminole runs in the loss.
