Some quick news and notes from the world of MMA here in the DFW Metroplex
– Phalanx/Genesis fighter Randy Villarreal will return to the cage this Saturday when he takes on Zac Geroge in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Villarreal is coming of a dominating performance over Todd Gentry last month at the New Braunfels Beatdown. At 6-3, Villarreal is rapidly becoming one of the region’s most respected fighters.
– Highly touted middleweight prospect JJ Holmes will be returning to the cage next month on the June 18 Undisputed MMA card taking place in Amarillo, TX. Holmes is a beast in the cage and his inclusion on any fight card all but guarantees fireworks.
– Fresh off their successful inaugural amateur MMA show this past March, Chopshop Xtreme Cagefighting will be returning to the Mesquite Convention Center with Mayhem in Mesquite 2. The 15-bout fight card will feature some of North Texas’ most talented young amateurs. North Texas Fisticuffs covered the past CXC fight and without a doubt, it was one of the most exciting local cards in recent memory.
– In some unfortunate news, undefeated local prospect Jason Sampson was injured while competing at NAGA. Sampson was illegally slammed by his opponent Blake Rosholt and suffered a mild concussion. While we are happy to report that Sampson is and will be ok, this injury will undoubtedly keep him on the sidelines for a while.
