It seems as though paradise has always been kind to the No. 1 UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. They had great success in the US Virgin Islands last season in the 2007 Paradise Jam and now they are enjoying their time in Cancun, Mexico.
It was another easy night for the Huskies as they rolled to an 85-40 win over the Northern Colorado Bears in the Caribbean Classic at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun.
The Huskies (9-0) were led by Maya Moore’s 19 points. She also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Renee Montgomery was the only other Husky in double figures with 15 points to go along with 3 assists. Tiffany Hayes came off the bench to pull down 9 rebounds and scoring 9 points while Kaili McLaren added 8 points and 10 rebounds. All 10 Huskies who played in the game scored.
Jaime Schroeder led the way for the Bears (4-6) with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Whitley Cox chipped in with 10 points and Lizzie Cooper added 6 points.
The Bears actually held leads early on at 2-0, 5-3 and 7-6 before a 14-2 run by the Huskies gave them a firm grasp on the game. They continued to build upon that lead over the course of the game and made off with another easy victory.
The Huskies will get a day off on Saturday to enjoy the sights and sounds of Cancun before returning to action on Sunday afternoon against the Florida State Seminoles. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM and the game will once again be broadcast on CPTV.
