It’s only 2006 in the sense that the Colts have had a bit of a personality transformation in recent weeks.
Here’s the difference, though: The 2006 team was healthy, and got healthier when Bob Sanders showed up for the postseason. This year, they’re not healthy, and while they’re getting a little bit better — Joe Addai is back and Clint Session is expected to play today — the fact is, none of the following players will be coming through that locker room door any time soon: Austin Collie. Jerraud Powers. Anthony Gonzalez. Dallas Clark. Melvin Bullitt. Kelvin Hayden. Sanders. Etcetera and etcetera.
Don’t make the mistake of getting drunk on outsized and unrealistic expectations. This team isn’t going to sniff the Super Bowl and will do well to get beyond the first round in a stacked AFC.
Just do yourself a favor and embrace what the Colts have done this year, what they figure to do today, and understand that whatever happens from here on out, it’s a bonus.
