The Tigers have lost eight of their last ten, have averaged just 3.3 runs during those games, and have scored zero, one, and two runs in three of the last four games (per Dan Dickerson). As Jim Leyland stressed in yesterday’s post game interview, that’s “not good.” Obviously, the slumpbuster we all thought the Indians would be is not putting out.
There’s good news, though! The Tigers’ pitching has been very good and Bonderman kept it going on Tuesday night. He went eight innings and gave up just three runs, improving his season ERA to 3.72. He’s only allowed seven runs in his last five starts (1.85 ERA). Further, the Tigers didn’t lose any ground in the Central Division. Both the Twins and White Sox lost, meaning the Tags still trail the Twins by 4.5 games and lead the White Sox by four.
However, the hitting won’t leave the Tigers much of a chance, so Leyland needs to light a cigarette under his lineup’s ass or get DD to round up some help. Or both.
