I told myself I wasn’t going to read articles about the Red Sox today because I didn’t want to read the doom and gloom, but who am I kidding….I still clicked over to both the Globe and the Herald and read what they had to say about our Sox this morning as I settled into my desk at work.
An article over at the Herald talked about some division in the clubhouse and how everyone, including Theo, is just disgusted that this team just can’t seem to win games, especially against teams that they should be. Theo’s comments….
“Things haven’t really changed,” he said. “We talked about this last week. We’re still playing bad baseball. Unintelligent, undisciplined, uninspired baseball. It’s got to change.
“It either changes itself or we have to do something to change it.”
I hear ya Theo. I hear ya. I still believe that the Sox are a much better team than our record or actual play on the field indicates…and that the ship will right itself, but my faith will be tested as the games continue to go by and we continue to see ourselves slip into almost basement status in the AL East.
And then the article went on to say…
A clear divide is opening between the veterans of the team’s World Series and playoff runs and the new players who were acquired to bolster the club this winter. Marco Scutaro seems like the only truly assimilated player of the bunch. It’s not hard to read between the lines.
“A lot of guys that have been here, we’re not used to this,” Pedroia said. “We’ll grind it out, but we’ve got to find a way to start winning some games.”
Hmm, you are right it is not hard to read between the lines. Scutaro is fitting in….and seemingly, Beltre is not. And maybe VMart as well since things seem much less happy go lucky than they were last year. Of course, if VMart can keep throwing runners out at 2B…and maybe…you know…hit…I think things will be just fine with him. Beltre…hmm…makes me wonder.
Of course…it’s not gonna be all warm fuzzies when the Sox just aren’t winning games…especially against teams they should be beating *coughs* Orioles *coughs* However, I hate to see that the boys in the clubhouse might be turning that frustration on one another. I’ll just cross my fingers that we get some significant wins against the big boy teams coming into town…and then everyone…even the players can take a collective step away from the ledge.
