Please forgive the tardiness of this post. There were some technical issues last night at Twins Target HQ)

We are a full day into the Winter Meetings in Washington (not Baltimore, like one local writer said yesterday) and there isn’t anything to show for the Twins as of yet.

That’s not a terrible thing, though. There is definitely a lot going on, and it seems as though, initially, teams are focusing on the big fish. Chris Sale’s name is being bandied about liberally in trade rumors, and any and all rumors surrounding the Twins have involved Brian Dozier. There aren’t many big free agents available, so that market is bound to be slow, and every off season, teams wait for the first shoe to drop before things get nuts. This year, there weren’t any trades on Day 1 for any team, so the Twins didn’t stand out in that regard.

There were some smaller moves. A couple of front office employees were promoted, for example, and last night they signed some offensive depth in former Rocky Ben Paulsen. No socks are knocked off, but it is a little something. There haven’t been any rumors surrounding anyone but Dozier that I have seen, though I would be very surprised if that doesn’t change. Watch for Twins starting pitchers to become trade targets, especially if Dozier brings back pitchers in return.

Jon Heyman at FanRag is the most vocal regarding The Twins and any potential moves, and he has suggested that more than just the Dodgers are involved in talks for Dozier, with the Yankees emerging as a second team that could be interested in the All Star Second Baseman, though their interest seems to be “just because” rather than because of a particular need. Their moves at the trade deadline have left them replete with prospects, however, and they may have the pieces that could intrigue Minnesota.

The Twins have said that they would need to be blown away to move Dozier, but GoMN reports that it seems pretty likely that they will be blown away. We’ll see. There are two days left in DC.
