The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had to work with a backup quarterback in this past Saturday’s win against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but it didn’t affect their quest for a spot in this year’s College Football Playoff.
The hero of Notre Dame’s dramatic win on the road at Virginia, DeShone Kizer, started his first full game for the Fighting Irish and looked good doing it, completing 21-of-30 passes for 242 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. But ultimately, Notre Dame’s real firepower came from running back C.J. Prosise and the Notre Dame offensive line that ran all over Georgia Tech. Prosise impressively had 22 carries for 198 yards and three touchdowns in the 30-22 victory. The Fighting Irish as a team ran 32 times for 215 yards with an average of 6.7 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Will Fuller also made some significant contributions en route to having another strong game for Notre Dame. For the game, he finished with six receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Notre Dame is preparing for their next game on September 26 against the Massachusetts Minutemen. UMass is coming off a well-played game against the Temple Owls, almost completing the upset but falling by two points. However, going on the road to face Notre Dame may be a different animal. Notre Dame football tickets on the secondary market have an average price of $139.84 with a get-in price of $55, according to TiqIQ.com. It is the least expensive Notre Dame game remaining on their schedule this season.
With cheap tickets available, it may be an opportune time for Fighting Irish fans to take in a game at Notre Dame Stadium. Hipmunk.com has flights to Indianapolis that has transportation to the Notre Dame campus, where for $53, South Bend hotels can be reserved to enjoy a weekend at the campus before and after the game.
Notre Dame may have one of their toughest games of the season following the game as UMass, as the Fighting Irish travel to South Carolina to face the Clemson Tigers. Clemson is currently ranked No. 11 in the country and were preseason favorites to win the ACC. Death Valley will be one of the most hostile environments Notre Dame will play in this season and will go against one of the most athletic defensive units in all of college football.
Although it’s been a strong start for the Irish, there’s a long way to go with their tough schedule. However, they can keep it going this weekend in a very winnable matchup opposite the Owls.
