It was announced on WWE NXT TV this week that Dakota Kai will team up with Io Shirai to face the debuting team of Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, two member of the Four Horsewomen of UFC, on next week’s episode of WWE NXT.
While the tag team bout was taped weeks ago at Full Sail University for next week’s broadcast, it is now being reported that Dakota Kai has suffered a serious injury which could keep her out of action for up to nine months.
According to WhatCulture, Kai teamed up with Shirai at an NXT live event in Green Bay, Wisconsin last week, and the team faced their opponents on TV next week, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.
[lawrence-related id=865188]During the bout, Dakota Kai went down with what appeared to be a knee injury, resulting in the referee throwing up the “X” symbol, and Kai was later tended to by WWE’s medical staff.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline, Kai indeed suffered a legitimate injury which appears as this time to be a torn ACL. While WWE has not confirmed the extent of the injury, should it in fact be a torn ACL, Kai is looking at a recovery time of approximately six to nine months. For those of you who remember, Kai’s former tag team partner, Tegan Nox, was sidelined during the Mae Young Classic earlier this year with a similar knee injury. Nox remains out of action and her return has yet to be announced.
The injury comes at a particularly bad time for Dakota Kai, as she was in the midst of a sizeable push on the Wednesday night brand, and was quickly becoming one of the top stars and fan favorites on NXT television. The Floor Seat will continue to monitor this developing story, and will provide the latest updates when more is known about Kai’s current injury status and future.
