The team 60-44 in all home openers returns to it’s stomping grounds today, as the Red Sox prepare for a 3:05 game in which they will recieve their 2004 World Series Champions rings prior to the game. They’ll be looking to snap a 3-game losing streak in home openers, and Wakefield will draw the ball for the home opener, the first time in his career he is opening at home, and the team will have nine different home opening pitchers in the nine previous years when Wakefield throws the first pitch.
NESN will carry the game, ESPN will take it national.
In Wakefield’s previous start, he opposed the Yankees and went 6.2 innings, striking four out, allowing two walks, three hits, and two homeruns for a 2.70 ERA start. Mussina got hit to the tune of nine hits, but lasted six innings with two strikeouts and walks and two runs. The Yankees need Mussina to pitch at least seven innings, because their bullpen took a beating in the Orioles series.
I’ll be attending the game. Gates open at 12:05, the banner ceremony at 2:05, then the game at 3:05. I’ll leave this open for comments before, during, and after the game. Let’s go, Sox!
