Midseason has arrived so I am taking my initial stab at the Oakland Raiders 2015 Mock Draft.
At 0-6, the Raiders can use big-time players on both sides of the ball, this mid-season mock draft includes no trades specially since its centered around the Raiders who are the only team in the NFL that still hasn’t won a game.
Owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie—with intern coach Tony Sparano—might take these picks if they are going on needs in first four rounds I will explain each pick.
If the Raiders stay with their current record they will have the number one overall pick.
Many people will think they may trade back here so they can take the best wide receiver but look there are no future Tim Brown’s or even Calvin Johnson’s in this draft class.
Sorry folks it’s simply not worth it.
1st -DT-Leonard Williams, USC
Amari Cooper is good, but not deserving of Heisman or the number one overall selection this does not mean in any direction the Oakland Raiders aren’t in desperate need of a number one receiver.
Statistically, the number overall pick usually is an offensive player so it would not hurt if the Raiders were to trade out that pick and pick up extra selections in the draft to someone like the Texans, Rams or Jets that desperately can use Marcus Mariota.
But in this mock no trades will be taken in consideration. The Raiders need youth upfront both on offense and defense.
I have the Silver and Black snatching up the next best defensive NFL lineman out of USC DT Leonard Williams. Having Williams and Ellis start next season will give the Raiders the extra force to stop any opposing team’s offensive machine upfront.
2nd OT Spencer Drango, Baylor
In the second round, the Raiders here can definitely grab a weapon for Carr and most people would think so. But with a young signal-caller you need great protection upfront first no matter who you’re throwing the ball.
I have the Raiders selecting offensive tackle Spencer Drango out of Baylor, may be the right answer. Carr needs more skilled lineman upfront. Look at what Drango does for Bryce Petty, any questions?
3rd WR Nelson Spruce, Colorado
Now it’s time for the Raiders to get a target for their developing young quarterback in Derek Carr.
To entertain everyone, the Oakland Raiders need a playmaker at receiver—not some overrated big college star—Oakland needs someone with good character and ready to take on any task and become an impact player from the get-go.
The Raiders need a wideout with superior hand-eye coordination that is versatile and agile with great speed.
Colorado Buffaloes wideout Nelson Spruce isn’t the biggest receiver, but he has flashed great potential in notching 71 receptions, 801 yards and 11 touchdowns, leading the nation in all three categories.
4th CB Eric Murray, Minnesota
The last player of my first four rounds mid-season Raiders mid-season mock draft will help the dreadful aging secondary as free-agent acquisitions Carlos Rodgers and Terrell Brown have shown to be duds so far.
The Raiders need youth in that position and who knows if DJ Hayden will get off his rocker and ever reach his potential Raiders cannot wait forever. Here is another surprise talent hidden in the mix on defense in Eric Murray, defensive back from Minnesota, who has the size and great potential to go up against the best receivers of the NFL.
Murray is a tackling machine with speed and has one block punt and an interception for the Gophers.
