LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. told Sirius XM NFL Radio this weekend that he plans to visit the Dolphins, Jets, and Eagles this week.
Beckham Jr. had a breakout season for the Tigers this year, finishing with 59 receptions for 1152 yards (19.5 avg) and 8 touchdowns. He flashed playmaking ability all over the field, lining up both in the slot and on the outside. Beckham showed off his blazing speed at the combine, running a 4.43 40-yard dash. Speed like this usually translates well from college to the NFL. Besides his speed, Beckham also possesses great hands and the ability to adjust to the ball while it’s in the air.
I highly doubt that a receiver with Beckham’s talent will fall all the way to pick 22, so if the Eagles have serious interest in him they will have to find a way to move up in the draft. In my eyes, Beckham is the third best receiver in this draft behind Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans. Our very own Matthew Hines has Beckham going to the Jets at pick 18 in his mock draft.
With all this being said, Beckham’s skills would present another dangerous weapon to Chip Kelly’s offense. He would be able to step in and fill in part of the void left by DeSean Jackson’s release. Beckham also has experience as a return man in his college career. He would be able to come in and immediately compete for that job with the Eagles.
So this is a good fit for the Eagles, but they are unlikely to be able to pick him without moving up at least five spots. They do have some trade bait with Brandon Graham and maybe even Bryce Brown, so keep your eyes open for a draft day deal.
