On Thursday, he appeared genuinely excited about the opportunity at hand — and publicly, at least, seemed as upbeat as he has been in some time.
“I told them, ‘Wherever they need me,”’ Ugoh said. “My big thing is I want to play. I don’t care where it’s at. Wherever you’re going to put me, put me out there, I want to play. That’s what I’m focused on.
“I told them, ‘Whatever the best spot for me to be is, put me there. I’m going to go at it.”’
He continued, “Everybody goes through a bump in the road, whatever it is – whether it’s an injury, or whatever. That was my bump, The biggest thing for me is how do I come back from that. I’ve never been one to shut anything down. I’m not shutting anything down.
“If anything, I’m going to work harder to get back out there.”
If all goes well for Ugoh in the coming weeks and months, it’s possible the bump could be one that shifts him to another position, perhaps not the position he and the Colts originally envisioned, but one at which he could flourish and one at which he could help the Colts’ offensive line.
It’s also a move that while not completely expected, in retrospect makes a lot of sense. If Ugoh can adjust, there may be an answer to the questions surrounding the interior of the offensive line already on the roster, and considering Ugoh’s enthusiastic attitude toward the move, it may have a better chance of being successful than some might originally think.
