Oehser sets the table

Looking forward to Denver

3. Same as he ever was. It’s not exactly news to write that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is having a good year. When’s the last time he had another kind? But because of his consistency – 10 Pro Bowl appearances; four Most Valuable Player awards, including each of the last two seasons – it’s easy to overlook when he’s playing better than he usually does. Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell was asked before the season if there were any signs that Manning had peaked in any way, and that didn’t it make sense that eventually Manning’s production would have to drop. Caldwell said essentially all signs were that Manning was still improving, and so far this season, that seems to be the case. He completed 40 of 57 passes for 433 yards and three touchdowns in the opener despite major pressure from the Houston Texans’ defense, and this past week against the Giants, he threw for 255 yards and three more touchdowns even though the Colts emphasized the run far more than the pass. He has yet to throw an interception. Only two games in, this has the feeling of perhaps being a special year for a player who has made special seasons at the position routine.
