The Red Sox took the mound against the Indians at noon in hopes of getting a win and the series from the Tribe. I was listening to most of the game on the radio since I had to be at work while the game was going on. Lester took the mound for the Sox and before he could even throw his first pitch, the offense spotted him 7 runs. You heard me…SEVEN RUNS in the top of the 1st. Ells singled, Pedey homered, Gonzo singled, Papi singled, Crawford singled, Salty singled, Cameron sac fly, Sutton singled, Ells singled again and Pedey singled. Yep…that was all in the first inning. The Sox kept rolling as Lester was really dominated the mound. Crawford was 4-4 on the day with a solo HR in the 4th. He was a triple shy of the cycle. Drew Sutton also had a productive first start with the Sox. He went 3 for 5 with an RBI. In fact, the only Red Sox starter who did not have an RBI on the day was Jed Lowrie. Papi and Salty got in on the HR show as well in the 6th.
Lester left the mound after the 6th inning with the Sox leading 14-0. Not only did he get tons of run support, but he was also wheeling and dealing. His last start he got the win, but he was clearly struggling….not today. He seemed in control, at least from what I was hearing on the radio. His pitching line was 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 Ks and his ERA dropped to 3.36. Dan Wheeler followed in the 7th and pitched a scoreless inning. Morales took the mound in the 8th and gave up 2 runs on a single, a ground rule double and another single. However, that is all the Tribe could muster and they fell to the Sox 14-2 with Scott Atchison closing the door in the 9th.
