Oh Say Did UC?

Jam packed edition of Oh Say Did UC today friends. I don’t have a link to the first thing I want to mention, so I’ll say it up top. UC has sold over 20,000 season tickets for this season. That’s incredible. It wasn’t that long ago 20,000 people went to UC games. It’s so exciting to have a program on the upswing. Hell, fuck the upswing, it’s incredibly exciting to have the top team in the Big East two years running. It’s unchartered territory for the UC program. Hopefully they handle prosperity well. Also, Zach Collaros is on the Davey O’Brien watch list as one of the top QBs in the land. Congrats 12.

I mentioned yesterday that I took part of a roundtable at the East Coast Bias. It’s in 4 parts. Today was part 1. Check check check it out. Find out what what what it’s all about.

In that roundtable, we talked about departures. One I mentioned could happen was Rashad Bishop. In interesting news, Rashad is playing in the Deveroes Summer League. He’s shooting for shit, 8-30 overall, and 1-11 from deep, but he’s on the floor with his teammates. Another interesting thing is that Terrell Holloway is playing for the team normally filled by Bearcats. Kinda odd. There are no more walls of hatred between schools anymore, where an X guy won’t play with a UC guy in summer leagues. If I were an old prick, I would lament this. Instead, I don’t care. But the big news, TERRELL HOLLOWAY HATES XAVIER AND WANTS TO PLAY FOR UC.

Here are a couple other basketball notes. Cashmere Wright had some minor knee surgery last week. He’s not expected to miss much time. UC added a new assistant coach, Darren Savino. Savino was with Rutgers last year, but before you roll your eyes, he coached with Mick at Murray State, so it’s a good thing. He replaces Tony Stubblefield, who went to Oregon. Oklahoma officially put out it’s nonconference schedule, highlighted by their game with Cincinnati in Oklahoma City. Yahoo did a write up on winners and losers of the NBA summer league. One of the winners, Indiana. They say “Lance Stephenson and Myron Rolle, 2nd round picks, both proved worthy of roster spots.” Higher praise can not be heaved upon friends.

Football time. If you haven’t read the ESPN Blue Book preview on UC, you are missing out. It’s very good. It’s also the free one.

ESPN’s Brian Bennett did a two (1,2) part interview with UC assistant Kerry Coombs. Coombs talks about the differences between Brian Kelly and Butch Jones, if he thought about leaving, UC’s Cincinnati recruiting, the secondary competitions, what it’s like practicing against UC receivers, and how awesome Bearcats Blog is.

USC WR Brandon Carswell is reported considering a transfer to UC. As a junior, he wouldn’t have to sit out this season thanks to the USC misdeeds. The LA Daily News is reporting it’s a sure thing. If UC lands another receiver, they might as well line up with like 7 and play like a flag team. Poppycock you say, that can’t work. I disagree. UC plays the terrible Indiana State. I could take over for Zach and Chazz Anderson and light up ISU.

Speaking of ISU, former UC coach Rick Minter is an assistant now. His son is the secondary coach there. Rick will coach the linebackers. The most important question is why did I choose to link now? Going with ISU or Rick Minter would have been the popular choice, but I threw a curve. That’s why Bloguin wanted me.

For the gamblers out there, BetUs has released their Big East odds. UC is +500, which ranks them 4th. UConn, Pitt, and WVU are all +250. Rutgers and South Florida are also +500, Louisville +800, and Syracuse +2000000 because they suck.

Down the Drive is previewing the season right now, and this is the preview for Miami. The interesting part is where they compare UC and Miami recruiting classes. 5 years ago, there was no difference peeps. Be grateful things turned positive for us.

Florida might have to vacate the Sugar Bowl win because the Pouncey brother that turned pro allegedly talked to an agent. This means nothing, because we all remember how much that sucked. Vacated games are a thing that no one gives a fuck about years after they happen. Does anyone care that Memphis was stripped of their final four? No, because we all remember they were there. Maybe it’s just me.

Finally, we wrap with some recruiting news. UC is in the final four for defensive end Desimon Green. Green is a 3 star recruit. I’m not signed up for Scout, and if you aren’t either, than that link means nothing to you. I had to search to find out his name.

There was a Raw Talent Sports Camp run recently, and some UC recruits and potential recruits were there. Among them, Shaquille Washington, who is called mini Gilyard by some people. He turned down UCLA and BC at least. Jeremy Graves, a 2012 recruit, who has an offer from UC. He’s a WR. Sae’Von Fitzgerald, another 2012 guy, who is a top recruit who can play both sides of the ball, has an offer. And that’s it.

Thanks for reading friends.
