After falling to Notre Dame in the Carrier Classic to open the season, their first loss in a season opener in 17 years, the Ohio State women’s basketball team looked to get things back on track tonight in their home opener against instate opponent Cincinnati.
Ohio State got off to strong start, scoring the game’s first 9 points despite a couple miscues on offense. After the 16 minute media timeout Cincinnati finally got their offense going as they went on a 7 to 2 run to cut the OSU lead to 11-7 with fourteen minutes to go in the half. The Buckeyes didn’t let the Bearcats get any closer than that as they went on a 10 to 2 run over their own over the next three minutes to extend their lead to 21-9. A short 5 to 2 mini-run by Cinci cut the lead back to single digits briefly but that didn’t last long as OSU dominated the rest of the half, leading 42-21 at halftime. Ohio State did a great job shooting the ball in the first half, going 77% from the floor and hitting both of their three-point shots. Defensively the Buckeyes held Cincinnati to only 27% shooting though the Bearcats were 2 of 5 from outside the arc.
