We’re back again to update you on some exciting new additions to the 2013 Big Board.
Typically recruiting dies down somewhat once fall practice starts, but that was to be expected anyways this year given so many early verbals.
Even with focus turning towards the season, official written offers give a good indication of who the staff is still seriously pursuing on the recruiting trail and official visits to games tell the tale of which prospects have serious interest in Ohio State.
Last season Urban Meyer was able to put together an unbelievable finish to the 2012 class. Could Meyer pull the same magic two years in a row?
That is obviously what most Ohio State fans will be hoping for.
Last year’s finish included flipping quite a few kids that had previously been committed to other schools. With no bowl game after this season, Ohio State’s staff will have time once again to focus on a select few targets (some of which are committed to other schools) as other coaches are preparing for a bowl game.
Could a few more flips be in Ohio State’s future? If the new additions to the board are any indication, that is clearly a possibility.
Here are the newest additions to our Recruiting Big Board.
FL LB Daniel McMillan (Highlights)
First up is FL LB Daniel McMillan (6’3″ 220 4-star), who is currently committed to Florida. That commitment can be considered soft, however, as he plans to visit Columbus sometime this fall.
A likely boost to Ohio State in this recruitment will be new Ohio State graduate assistant Ryan Stamper, who went to the same high school as McMillan and played for Coach Meyer at Florida.
There are certainly plenty of interesting story lines surrounding McMillan and Ohio State, and he is clearly one to watch as signing day approaches.
FL WR Tony Stevens (Highlights)
Next up is FL WR Tony Stevens (6’3″ 175 4-star), who is currently committed to Florida State. Ohio State extended a written offer to Stevens on August 1st (the first day you are allowed to do so) and it caught his attention.
It is well known that Ohio State is still looking for some WR prospects in the 2013 class, and Stevens could throw his hat in the ring for one of those spots- if he follows through on the initial interest he expressed in the Buckeyes.
Without an official visit to Columbus, this one will be on the back burner, but if Stevens does make his way north at some point before signing day it will be game on.
PA OL Dorian Johnson (Highlights)
Finally, PA OL Dorian Johnson (6’6″ 280 4-star) recently de-committed from Penn State and has opened his recruitment back up with a focus on Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.
Ohio State is looking for a tackle prospect to add to the class, and with MI OL Dennis Finley being the only reasonably likely candidate with an offer at this time, this could be big news on that front.
It would seem that Pitt has a pretty heavy advantage here, but it is clearly an opportunity for Meyer and company to work their magic.

Once again, with written offers officially out in 2013, it will be easier to see who the staff is focusing on to finish the 2013 class (although that is already relatively clear). As mentioned, official visits for games will also help paint the picture.
These three names were ones that popped up following the initial round of written offers, and there will likely be more between now and signing day.
It would be surprising if Ohio State didn’t pull in a surprise recruit or three to finish the class- just like last year.
It’s all just another day in the life of following Urban Meyer recruiting.
