10. Tyquan Lewis, DE/LB, North Carolina

The defensive line class is already incredibly stacked this year, making Tyquan Lewis more of a luxury to add rather than a necessity, which is why he comes in at #10 on this list. Still, the coaching staff is pursuing Lewis heavily after viewing him in person at camp last month and offering. He has a top three of Ohio State, LSU and North Carolina and hopes to commit sometime in September.

9. Dennis Finley, OT, Michigan

Ohio State looks like they will add at least one more offensive linemen in the ’13 class, and Dennis Finley is at the top of the list of most likely candidates right now. The coaching staff evaluated him in-person before offering. Ohio State isn’t the only team to come away impressed following camp performances, and his recruitment is picking up steam.  Despite low ratings from the recruiting services, the coaching staff clearly sees the potential and tools in Finley to grow into a prototypical tackle in Columbus. His top three schools are Ohio State, Michigan State and Illinois.

8. Lavonte Whitfield, WR, Florida

Ohio State offered Lavonte Whitfield after his stellar performance at The Opening camp this past weekend where he posted a 4.37 40. Twitter was buzzing with rumors of a WR committing during said camp, with the most likely candidate being Whitfield. Although not as highly rated as some of the other WR targets further down this list, if he continues to perform well this summer it is hard to imagine not seeing his rankings improve significantly. Highly ranked or no, Lavonte Whitfield solidified himself as a top target for the Buckeyes.

7. David Williams, RB, Pennsylvania

The staff are looking to add another RB in the class and are pursuing several targets heavily, David Williams being one of them. This recruitment has been relatively quiet thus far, but he will be attending Friday Night Lights at the end of the month and things could take off from there. Right now he has a top 10 which includes Ohio State.

6. Devon Allen, WR, Arizona

Devon Allen excels on the track as well as the football field and has heavy connections to Ohio State (his father is an alumnus) which make him one of the top remaining targets in the class. He plans to visit Columbus for Friday Night Lights, which could be a turning point in his recruitment. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ohio State add more than one wide receiver to the class. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Allen was one of them (especially if he makes it to Columbus on July 27th).

5. James Quick, WR, Kentucky

James Quick is another star on the track and one of the top receivers in the country to boot. The Buckeyes are currently in his top three along with Louisville and Oregon. Speculation is that if Charlie Strong remains Louisville’s head coach, the Cardinals have a strong (no pun intended) lead in this recruitment. If that were to change for whatever reason, the Buckeyes would be in a great position.

4. Robert Foster, WR, Pennsylvania

Although Robert Foster’s recruitment was rumored to hit a major roadblock following an official visit to Columbus, based on comments from other players in the class it still appears that the Buckeyes may be in the mix. At the very least, he still put Ohio State in his top 7 last month. If the staff is still actively pursuing him, Foster is without a doubt one of the top playmakers in the country and would be a major addition on the offensive side of the ball.

3. Derrick Green, RB, Virginia

Along with David Williams, Derrick Green is a top target to fill the final RB spot in the class. Ohio State has been at the top of his list for months and he has many connections to the Buckeyes (huge fan of Eddie George, teammates with LB Curtis Grant), but he has only narrowed that list to 13 schools. Given that, it wouldn’t be surprising to see his recruitment go clear to signing day. Green has emerged as one of the top players in the class regardless of position and, needless to say, he would be a nice addition for the Buckeyes. Green is set to room with current Buckeye RB commit Ezekiel Elliott at Friday Night Lights at the end of the month.

2. Vonn Bell, S, Georgia

Like most of the players on this list, Vonn Bell is here because the Buckeyes are looking to add another DB in the class and he is the top candidate to fill that spot. Bell camped at Ohio State last month and won MVP honors, so that is encouraging right off the bat.  He says he doesn’t plan to camp anywhere else this summer which is also encouraging, although he does want to take all five official visits before making his decision. He plans to cut his list to two teams by Labor Day from a list that includes Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt and Clemson.

1. Mike Mitchell, LB, Texas

Mike Mitchell was the winner of The Opening camp this past weekend, posting a record breaking SPARQ score of 154.37 thanks in part to a 4.39 40. Naturally, a performance like that resulted in plenty of buzz surrounding Mitchell, and fortunately for Ohio State most of that buzz seemed to focus on an upcoming commitment to the Buckeyes (he is 80% sure he will commit to the good guys according to Mike Farrell). The staff has been pursuing Mitchell since offering in March, but there hadn’t been a lot of encouraging news up until this weekend. A top combine performance and 80% puts him at #1 on this list.
