On Monday afternoon, Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairmen, announced the cancellation of OJ Simpson’s book “If I Did It” and the television specials to promote the book. 12 Fox Affiliates had said they would not air the special and Borders Book Stores had previously announced that they would donate any profits made from the book to charity.
“If I Did It” was supposed to be about how OJ Simpson would have killed his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman. OJ was found innocent of these killings in 1995 in criminal proceedings but in a civil suit, he was found criminally liable to the tune of $33 million dollars. The publisher of the book, Judith Regan, of ReganBooks, considered it Simpson’s “confession”.
The television special was to air during November sweeps in an effort to boost ratings for the FOX Network. I can tell you that I for one would have not watched this television show nor would I have read the book. To me its absolutely absurd that he could even write something like that. If he did it, he should just come out and say that. 99% of America already thinks he killed them both anyways so whats the difference.
Kudos to News Corp for making the right decision on this subject.
