The Red Sox were in the driver’s seat yesterday until Oki came in to pitch the eighth. His bad pitching and even worse defense quickly gave the game away to the Mariners.
The Red Sox can ill afford to lose games like this when they are in a three way race for the A.L. East. Sean McAdam of CSNNE wrote this after yesterday’s lose:
If the season hasn’t begun to slip away from the Red Sox, then it’s dangerously close.
There is still time left for the Sox to make a run but they let one slip away yesterday in Seattle. The team is having problems building consistency with periods of bad defense and a weak bullpen and injuries have taken their toll. Perhaps that is why TV ratings are down this year:
Entering the All-Star break, ratings for Red Sox games on NESN have dropped nearly 36 percent from last year.
