Oklahoma City Thunder make trade noise

Within what seemed to be seconds on Twitter, the Oklahoma City Thunder agreed to send point guard Reggie Jackson to the Detroit Pistons as well as dealing the expiring contract of Kendrick Perkins to the Utah Jazz for former Kentucky Wildcat Enes Kanter.

Reggie Jackson communicated that he wanted to be traded to his agent, and today, GM Sam Presti filled his request.  Jackson is averaging 12.8 points and 4.2 assists per game this season for the Thunder, and he is joining a team in the Pistons — whom some think can sneak in the back door and get the eighth seed in the playoffs under first year coach and GM Stan Van Gundy.

The Thunder had been rumored to be trading for Brooklyn’s Brook Lopez, but instead, they chose to deal with the Jazz for Kanter.  Kanter is averaging 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 27.1 minutes per game for Utah.  The trade gives Oklahoma City front court help alongside Serge Ibaka and Steven Adams, but leaves them thin at the point guard position where the only backup to Russell Westbrook is Ish Smith — provided another deal isn’t forthcoming.

Tonight, the Oklahoma City Thunder are back in action after the All-Star break as the Dallas Mavericks come to town.  The 28-25 Thunder are fighting with the Phoenix Suns — who dealt star point guard Goran Dragic to Miami, but acquired Brandon Knight from Milwaukee — and the New Orleans Pelicans — who stayed quiet at the deadline aside from acquiring Norris Cole late from Miami.
