Holy cow…this isn't going to sit well.
If the current trend of people trotting out their hackneyed impressions of Harry Caray isn't enough to make the Hall of Fame broadcaster roll over in his grave…this probably is doing the trick.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Old Style is out as the official beer of the Chicago Cubs. Yup, after more than 60 years, the brew is no longer going to be the top hops at Wrigley Field…the team has inked a deal with Anheuser-Busch.
"This was a very difficult decision following a decades-long relationship we enjoyed with this great brand," the Cubs said of ending its partnership with Old Style. "We will continue to offer Old Style and Old Style Light to our fans for our remaining games."
But don't fret, Cubs fans…all is not lost. Yet. In the tradition of people starting petitions for nearly everything, Old Style has started, you guessed it, petition to keep their beer at the ballpark.
"Judging by the reaction to this news, on social channels and through the numerous inquiries received, fans want to make their voices heard," Old Style stated on their website. "They've made clear, that while deep pockets may win an 'official' deal, Old Style has something more priceless: the hearts of legions of Chicago fans."
So far, they've collected more than 2000 signatures. But something tells me, just like the garbage they've been fed for more than a century on the field…Cubs fans will drink whatever is put in front of them.
