We are back for week five of our “On Notice” feature with Matt Elder of BuffaloBillsDraft.com. Back in week one Matt called the Richmond upset over Duke and since then we’ve decided to make this a weekly feature. Ouch! What a horrible week I had last week, went 0-3 overall and 0-3 ATS. Not the way I wanted to go after going 2-1 the week before. Overall we are now down to 3-9 in straight up picks and 6-6 ATS. Ill try and do better this week though as I have three more teams to put on upset alert.
Florida over Alabama (Alabama is favored by 4)
I know many Gator fans who are very quietly whispering about this game and they have every reason to. Florida is off to a great start, they took care of business v. an up and coming Tennessee team and they are getting the Tide in the Swamp. Alabama still has no answer at QB and the Gators have yet to allow a RB to gain over 50 yards v. their defense. They have the best front four in the SEC, and LB Jelani Jenkins can outrun almost any RB in the country who tries to stretch it outside. The key to this game will be Florida getting the combination and Rainey and Demps going, as well as finding a WR who for Brantley to consistently get the ball to. I like the Gators in the swamp to pull of f the upset.
ECU over UNC (UNC is favored by 6.5)
After watching UNC’s defense the past couple of weeks, they are not the same as they were just a year ago. Their coverage has about as many holes in it as Swiss Cheese and it seems like nobody is staying home and playing disciplined defense at the moment. Throw in a team like ECU who loves to throw the ball and hit you quick and it’s a recipe for disaster. Can the Heels finally get it together? It may hinge on their defensive line getting to Dominique Davis on Saturday and as of now I’m not sure they can. That’s why Im taking the Pirates to upset the Heels.
Arizona over USC (USC is favored by 14)
Call me unimpressed, call me a hate, call me whatever but thus far this Trojan team isn’t striking fear into me or anybody else this season. Matt Barkley has been good but their running game has been hit and miss at times. Outside of their Syracuse game USC has only outscored their opponents by a combined 11 points. Arizona who is on a 3 game losing streak is a team that I feel like is due. Criner is fully back from his appendectomy. Foles looks red hot and this team could outscore USC and steal one away.
